And we're off...

Diggs, Celo and I all leave for Lake Tahoe this evening. We will hopefully be enjoying some super rad climbing on the little stones.

If we have computer access, I will be sure to post photos. Hope you all have a great week and a fun holiday weekend.

Tall Warmups

This thing doesn't look like its very tall, but let me tell you. When you're up on it, it makes you feel very insecure. It's just to the right of U.K. Hockey Night. Try it.

Mantle Panties V1 ( ! )

Slight of Hand, Fingerbanger, these climbs all eluded our efforts. Sometimes, the B-sides are more than enough to keep you entertained though.

Kristen pulling into the opening moves of Mantle Panties. This is where the business is at. Frank pulling onto the balancy slab.
It finishes on rewarding slab goodness.
Annie enjoying the casual climb to the top.
Emily also fought hard and pulled this one out.
Though it is not really a warm up, it is worth doing if you ever get bored watching the gnar hounds working something they have no hope of sending. Thanks for making it such a fun day kids!

Why, what's your wall paper?

Sometimes you have an experience that humbles you. Sometimes you have an experience that is really painful. Sometimes you have an experience that makes you hate all of England.

Good TImes

This past weekend was an excellent trip to Camp Dick. Things got sent kids. I provide you with photographic evidence of an outrageous SEND TRAIN that occurred on Ball That Jack (v5) Karyn sticking the big last move. Has she been climbing strong or what!?!?
Annie with one of the smoothest ascents the problem saw all day.
Kevin Brown also wrestled this thing into submission. (despite his sausages barely fitting behind the sharp crimp)
Rich threw in some grunting and try hard that ultimately paid off with a trip to the top!
Diggs put this thing to bed. And rightfully so. She's put some time in on it and this time got to enjoy the walk off. Nice job Kristen!
If I left anyone out, I'm sorry. I must not have pictures of your send. But thank you to everyone who came out and contributed to an unforgettable weekend at the Dick!
OH! And rich just BARELY hung the top jug on this thing for his send. You should blow it up and see the girls faces in the background. I don't even thing RICH thought he was going to live through this. WAY TO COMMIT DOOD!!!!!!!!!!!ONEONE!!!!

More problems coming throughout the week!

If Marcelo were a cartoonist installment...

heh heh (Source unknown. Sorry)

Tiny Artist

So two news updates today... I pulled off Armed Response today, so that's good. Did it in good style too. I was hiking around looking at other problems and came across this tiny little hole that was surrounded by sticks. There wasn't anything living in it but it looked like maybe it was some sort of spider hole. Anyone have any idea what this might be? I'd really like to know! The hole resembled some of the work by the great natural media artist Andy Goldsworthy, I'll put in a photo for you to check out. Bonus points to whomever figures out what made this!

Is This Thing On?

I thought it would be cool to figure out how this blog posting thing works. I've been in Rocklands about a week now boulering with different folks every day and having a great time. I hope everyone back home is having a great summer. Here's a pic from my send on Shosholoza as well as a scenic shot of the town I'm staying at. I'll also post a picture of a curious Ostrich I saw today at a local vineyard. I'll try to post more blogs so I can stay connected with everyone.
Stick send!

News Dump

In attempt to make up for the lack of posts lately, I thought maybe it would be appropriate to showcase the reason for my lethargy.

CLIMBING LIKE THERE AIN'T NO TOMORROW KIDS!
John has been killing it on the bouldering front lately! Quick ascents of several high end moderates have only fueled the fire! Here he chucks a lap on Ghost Dance.
Diggs has also been dancing with the specter lately. She's made steady progress and will likely send this freaking thing soon! Go Diggs! Brewer accompanied us on one of the camping trips to lovely Guanella Pass. Here, the bishes watch Thomas warm up in attempt for his project. Can't you just feel the excitement!
"Mind Matters" is no joke. Upon first seeing this problem, I didn't think any sane person would try to boulder it out. Sure enough, Thomas is no sane person so my theory stands. This line has received some attention lately due to it's rumored appearance in "Rocky Mountain Highball". I can't wait to see Thomas send this thing!
Several clowns lately have become interested in the "steppin razors" line on the Dark Horse boulder. Understandably so. It's tall, fun moves, and a proud send. Diggs about to enter the crux:
Thomas took a quick lap on the problem for lack of any delos to punch.
Did you know Matt Chibotti has the biggest mouth of any kid we know? He CRUSHED me and the Delo in a game of chubby bunny. 7 mallows kids. Doesn't sound like a lot? Try it and see.
Unfortunately, flu like symptoms developed quickly afterward.
Thomas wants everyone to know that he found a Columbine flower while bouldering at Guanella. If that doesn't do it for you, the WICKED 80s DU shirt should!
Alexa strutting her stuff on Steppin Razor. It took 2 sessions, but she put this beast to bed in good style. Congratulations PITA!
It is astonishing to me that anyone could flash the line. However, it saw back to back flashes as Matt Chibotti and Bec attacked with some try-hard! It took me 2 sessions and I'm still not sure I could do it reliably! GOOD CLIMBING KIDS!
Kristen is in need of some new shoes. This line at the main cluster has given her fits. She is so close to sending, it hurts ME. The terrible feet could easily be blamed. But no, she marches on and is psyched for when it will go.
Thomas Betterton. I think the might be transforming to "Eat your face" mode, but I could be completely off base with that one.
As usual, Marcelo is doing sit starts to warm-ups with perfectly good stand starts. V2 turned v5 anyone? OOOOHHHH OOOOOHHHHH PICK ME!!!!!!!!!!
Lots of climbing, lots of hanging outs and lots of laughs have made these past few weeks simply amazing! I look forward to the summer shenanigans that haven't even been dreamed up yet. Thank you all for being so cool and climbing hard like woah! Totally inspiring.
See you all out there!

Buzz-Cut (V10)

Mark was planning on surprising his wife, Ann, with a "special haircut" for their anniversary. Not the kind you are thinking (sicko) but losing his lovely locks!

Mark is clearly in denial in this picture. He's either asking for a little off the top or making his usual 10 inch joke. Either way you're in for a surprise. Marcelo is so excited he can hardly contain his bladder!
As the first cut begins, I can't help but notice that Mark's face is not as excited as you would expect.
Then he switches it up and goes with somber acceptance with a hint of swagger.
Then the "oops" happens. Definitely not what you want to hear with a gumby "stylist" on the other side of the scissors.
No, she didn't maim him. At this point he was finally beginning to see the finished product coming together and was getting PSYCHED!
OWW OWWW!!!!!!!!! Don't worry. He was only naked from the socks up. Doesn't he look HOT!
I certainly hope you are enjoying your new haircut Mark!

FYI the hair is bagged up and waiting to be donated to one of the wig makers for cancer kids. NICE!

Upping their game...

Rich and Alexa both sent their hardest problems to date at our after-work session at Morrison South today! Good work kids!

Rich sent Dasani V7 quickly, having worked the moves at a previous session.
Dynamic Beta for LIFE!
Alexa finished off Squirming Coil V6 after almost calling it a day. Instead she took a power spot to get to the lip and work the top out moves. She was psyched after learning she was so close and went on to send. Nice job!
No doubt it will be the shenanigans they remember more than anything, but it still feels good to be progressing and getting better at something that brings you so much joy and satisfaction.
CONGRATULATIONS GUYS!
