Weekend Report = 3 Days of Climbing!

As I sit here at the computer on a Sunday night I feel TIRED. This is due to one HECK of a good weekend of climbing! It all started with a sweet after work session at Castlewood on Friday. The usual suspects were in attendance and things went down. Kristen and Alexa both sent 9 lives arete (their project) and kicked off the weekend in style.
Saturday dawned cold and windy, but the crew was not to be contained to the gym. Morrison South was to be the destination and it had no idea it was about to get owned.
First of all, Squirming Coil saw the quickest ascent that i have yet witnessed. Karen sent it casually on her SECOND TRY. Truly amazing. She also went on to send pretty much everything she touched. Don't you love those days!?! Several of us also busied ourselves on a problem called Double Arette. A wrestling match to say the least. Here, Kevin is throwing an interesting toe hook to stabilize for the jug toss. PROUD SEND. John's second day of pure bouldering went pretty well. He also nailed down the coil after some try hard and digging. Pretty solid for the reformed trad-man!

Lisa absolutely gave squirming coil hell. She'll send soon. Look at all that try hard!

Marcelo was on hand to provide choss beta and talk us away from the better lines to climb. Here he can be seen giving beta for the sit start to a problem that was just plain FUN from the stand.

Kristen sent the stand start quickly and easily. A very cool lip encounter / mantel ends this roof feature.

Karyn was the only climber to pull through the heinous opening sequence of the low start. Just look at the contortion it takes to get that drop knee! Unfortunately, once pulling through this beastly start, she pumped out on the lip jugs. Oh well. You can't send the ENTIRE AREA in one day!

Last, but not least, you can see Marcelo forging is own line and coming out the LEFT side of the prow. Definitely the road less traveled and much harder than the other direction. I love how this picture captures the SHEER TERROR that we all feel when spotting Marcelo through his madness.

More sending on the project front...

Whoa send train on "Gerbil in a Chute"!

Luckily, the weather cooperated for a very nice session on the punani boulder in Castlewood on Tuesday.

Kevin, Alexa, and Kristen all sent Gerbil in quick succession. All of them had been on the problem previously and all of them were psyched to finish it.

Nice work everyone!

Your favorite K-diggity sent her project and her first "real" V6 on Saturday!

Those of you who are familiar with the problem know what a struggle this is. Definitely hard for the grade and a proud send! Celebrate Kristen! You deserve it!

Rich and Kevin are also REALLY close to sending. Good luck to them!

Also... If the weather cooperates, we are off to an area with an amazing V5 and V6 at castlewood Tuesday evening after work. You should go. 4 out of 5 clowns agree. (put your hand up Rich!)

Arthur's Rock is the HOT place to be!

Arthur's Rock was literally smokin' hot today. The climbing crew quickly became the fire crew as soon as we rolled into the area and a couple people noticed a small fire that had started right above Ode to Failure. A ranger passing by convinced Thomas to stop beating down the flames with his Organic hoodie and organized everyone to clear a fire line. They quickly got the fire under control. Although we weren't able to climb at Arthur's, great send today for everyone who kept the area from burning to a crisp.

The Harness Is Off

No more top-roping the proj. for the Delo. I can't even begin to describe how that span makes your body feel. Marcelo describes it as "sucked on". I think suck about covers it.

All joking aside, I'm totally psyched to see Marcelo send this thing. Despite being super ill as his cough medicine wore off and the sloper being in the sun (and far from sticky) he totally hung it for a second. He also topped it out from this position on top rope.

Yes, yes. I'm sure the Delo will be putting in the send burn once he is well and the sloper is not baking. Wish him luck. He has certainly put in the time and earned this send.
