Handfull...OF FUN!

Ahh yes. Spring time. Slopers get greasy, bugs come out to feast on boulderer's flesh, and some dude gets a PROUD hand full of Diggity bottom.
Ok, the "some dude" is Kevin, and we're BOTH awfully grateful he caught her. She came very close on Saturday to sending the V6 Double Arete at Morrison South. Proud diggs! Sunday was a new destination for me (Poudre Canyon) and although I did not get much climbing in, I had a ton of fun just hanging out with the crew and taking in the antics. Marcelo is always a good muse. He picked the ONLY piece of snow/ice still in existence over the stream near the boulders and decided to give it a go. I think he was born to be a mountaineer and not a boulderer.

I'm not sure if Ben is playing the air guitar or the skin flute in this picture, but either way, it's graphic! A nice set of boulders right by the water provided a laid back...though buggy...way for the crew to loosen up.

Poudre is no joke. Most of the problems are steep and use sharp crimps which require strange body tension to even hold on to. Powerful, thuggy, and still technical. As you can see, the temps and the style required some brushing and recon.

Despite at least one shut-down for every climber in attendance, everyone had a great time and stayed psyched. I think it's all Ben's fault. I mean, how can you take it too seriously when you have a dude who holds this type of presence traipsing through your session? I LOVE IT BEN!

All said and done it was a great weekend. And YES I have pictures of actual problems and crushing. I am pledging one post a day for the whole week so check back.

I know. SO metal.

Last Resort

Arthur's was a little warm on Sunday. Luckily, this gem was found in the shade.

A very cool problem and probably one of the biggest fights I've been through. Deep digging was required and I'm proud to say it went. (as JJ said... in the 12th round)

Arthur's Rock

Sunday was Arthur's rock for a few of us. It was a very fun session and a very enjoyable Sunday.
Kristen examines the damage the dirt burglar traverse does to your forearms as Kevin prepares to send. So the fire damage is not extensive, but definitely noticeable. The good news was you couldn't smell my fire shirt in this particular area as Kevin looked at "Shot Put".

Also, a brand new "butt shot of the week" photo was captured by our very own K-diggity. Any guesses as to the bottom in question?

Weekend Report = 3 Days of Climbing!

As I sit here at the computer on a Sunday night I feel TIRED. This is due to one HECK of a good weekend of climbing! It all started with a sweet after work session at Castlewood on Friday. The usual suspects were in attendance and things went down. Kristen and Alexa both sent 9 lives arete (their project) and kicked off the weekend in style.
Saturday dawned cold and windy, but the crew was not to be contained to the gym. Morrison South was to be the destination and it had no idea it was about to get owned.
First of all, Squirming Coil saw the quickest ascent that i have yet witnessed. Karen sent it casually on her SECOND TRY. Truly amazing. She also went on to send pretty much everything she touched. Don't you love those days!?! Several of us also busied ourselves on a problem called Double Arette. A wrestling match to say the least. Here, Kevin is throwing an interesting toe hook to stabilize for the jug toss. PROUD SEND. John's second day of pure bouldering went pretty well. He also nailed down the coil after some try hard and digging. Pretty solid for the reformed trad-man!

Lisa absolutely gave squirming coil hell. She'll send soon. Look at all that try hard!

Marcelo was on hand to provide choss beta and talk us away from the better lines to climb. Here he can be seen giving beta for the sit start to a problem that was just plain FUN from the stand.

Kristen sent the stand start quickly and easily. A very cool lip encounter / mantel ends this roof feature.

Karyn was the only climber to pull through the heinous opening sequence of the low start. Just look at the contortion it takes to get that drop knee! Unfortunately, once pulling through this beastly start, she pumped out on the lip jugs. Oh well. You can't send the ENTIRE AREA in one day!

Last, but not least, you can see Marcelo forging is own line and coming out the LEFT side of the prow. Definitely the road less traveled and much harder than the other direction. I love how this picture captures the SHEER TERROR that we all feel when spotting Marcelo through his madness.

Whoa send train on "Gerbil in a Chute"!

Luckily, the weather cooperated for a very nice session on the punani boulder in Castlewood on Tuesday.

Kevin, Alexa, and Kristen all sent Gerbil in quick succession. All of them had been on the problem previously and all of them were psyched to finish it.
